Ed Arnold attended Kenner for six years in the 1960's from grade 9 to 13.  At first he entered a technical course, but the next year switched to arts and sciences.  He attended Sir Sandford Fleming College where journalism twigged his curiosity.

He started at the Examiner as a darkroom technician.  As he did his darkroom work he kept learning from newsroom employees.  One day his break came and an editor assigned him to provincial Court.  The next day he was hired as a reporter.  Ed covered several beats in the Examiner before becoming City Editor, a job that he kept for seven years. 

Ed Arnold is now the managing editor of The Peterborough Examiner, Peterborough's daily newspaper. He has won numerous newspaper awards, received the Ontario Medal of Citizenship for his work with children in the community and formed a children's charity in the community called Kids In Need. He has also written four local books, with another coming out this fall. A national book, commissioned by McClelland and Stewart on minor hockey in Canada will also be released this fall.  He is married with two children.

After graduating from Kenner he attended the University of Waterloo and then Trent University.  Played varsity hockey at Trent, and worked as a summer representative for Molson Breweries allowing him to make many community contacts and become involved in local charity and community supported events.  Upon graduation from Trent Cam became a local business entrepreneur opening a sports store known as Racquets and Jackets.  He supported many local leagues, teams, charities and events, and he was involved in the original development of minor football in Peterborough serving as the first coach.

Cam accepted a position in Sales with Molson in late 1979, moved out of Peterborough but maintained strong ties to the area.  While working at Molson, he has had involvement with fund-raises for Cancer treatment and research, Big Brothers, Children's Aid Society and many other local campaigns.  The role he takes the greatest pride in, aside from his wife Barb and two children and coaching minor sports, has been the creation of the Bev Hewitt Charity Fund at St. Joseph’s Hospital.  He has raised thousands of dollars in memory of Bev and that support has helped improve Cancer treatment at St. Joseph’s and in the Peterborough area.

Gary attended Kenner Collegiate from 1969-1974.  In 1971 he received the Wass Memorial trophy as the top junior athlete at Kenner.  He was a member of the C.O.S.S.A. champion Kenner golf team in 1973.  He received his athletic shield in 1974 and Gold K.  He played Junior B Hockey in Peterborough (Captain 1974-75).  Gary attended Mount Allison University in 1975 to play varsity hockey.  He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Trent University in 1978 and a bachelor of Education degree from Queen’s University in 1979.  He began his career as an elementary teacher the same year.  Gary is heavily involved in coaching, managing and officiating hockey in Peterborough.  He has coached all levels from mite to Junior “A”.  Currently, he is Coach/General Manager of the Peterborough Junior “A” Hockey Club.  Gary earned a Master of Education degree from the University of Toronto in 1986.  He served two years as President of the local Elementary Teacher’s Federation and spent three years as an Elementary Vice-Principal.  In 1994, Gary researched and co-wrote a book entitled, “Five Decades with the Petes.”  In 1999 Gary was presented with the 3M Coaching Recognition Award for outstanding commitment to the coaching of amateur hockey in Canada and in 2000, he received the “Presidents’ Award” for outstanding dedication and service to the Peterborough Minor Hockey Council.  Now in his 23rd year of teaching, Gary continues to reside in Peterborough with Debbie, his wife of 25 years and their two sons, Andrew 20 and Brad 18.

Don grew up in Peterborough, attending Prince of Wales Public School before graduating from Kenner in 1960.  He graduated from the Peterborough Teacher’s College and Trent University.  Don taught school for thirty-four years in Peterborough at Westmount Public School, Thomas A. Stewart S.S., P.C.V.S., and for a semester at Kenner Collegiate.

Don has been active in lacrosse; coaching at the minor, high school, junior, major, professional and international levels.  In 1978 he was a coach on the Canadian national Field Lacrosse team that won the World Championship.

He has been inducted into the Peterborough District Sports Hall of Fame, the Ontario Lacrosse Hall of Fame and the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame.

Since 1981 he has been a scout with the Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League.  He writes a weekly sports column in the Peterborough Examiner and has published three books on athletics in the city.

Paul graduated from Kenner C.V.I. in 1965 and from Trent University in 1968. (B.Sc.)  He did graduate studies in limnology at the University of Manitoba and the Freshwater Institute, Winnipeg. (Msc. 1976).  He attained Ph.D equivalency in 1982.

Paul began his career with the Freshwater Institute as a summer student in 1968, assisting in eutrophication studies at the Experimental Lakes Area and on Lake Winnipeg.  1970-1975 he was chemist and project coordinator for the Nitrilotriacetate and MacKenzie Valley Pipeline Projects.  1976-1988 he was head and manager of the Fish Habitat Research Division where multi-disciplinary ecosystem research was conducted in order to develop timely and sound freshwater habitat and fisheries management strategies.  The issues addressed, of national and international scope, were associated with the major energy-generating alternatives; combustion of fossil fuels, nuclear power and hydroelectric power.  These studies received international recognition for relevance and research excellence.  1988-1995 Paul was scientist in charge of the Lake Variation and Climate Change Study designed to predict responses of Canadian Shield lakes to global warming.  During Paul’s career with the Freshwater Institute he authored or co-authored 25 scientific papers and reports, co-edited special series, participated in policy development, and served on national committees as well as an International Joint Commission reference.

Since retiring from the Freshwater Institute, Paul has taken on the position of first board chair of the South Eastman Regional Health Authority, which is responsible to the Manitoba Government for planning and delivering health care programs and services to residents of southeastern Manitoba.  He is also a member of the Regional Health Authorities of Manitoba’s Council of Chairs, and other provincial committees.

After graduating from Kenner in 1963 Sharon attended Peterborough Teachers' College and was selected as one of the top ten future teachers. Her career started in North York in 1964. During her teaching career she held the position of Consultant, Elementary and Secondary Vice-Principal and Principal with Victoria County. From 2000-2003 Sharon was selected to be Principal of the Canadian International School of Hong King which proved to be an experience of a lifetime. For the past four years, Sharon has been the Co-ordinator/Lecturer with Queen's-Trent Concurrent Education Program. Sharon obtained a BA from Trent, a MEd from University of Toronto where she also received her Supervisory Officer's Qualifications and taught the Principals' Course. Sharon's volunteer work has included curriculum writing and the training of volunteers for Palliative Care, Alzheimer's and Community Care. In her spare time Sharon enjoys watercolour artwork, needlepoint, travelling with her husband, and playing the piano for charity events with the L'll Big Band.

Sharon shares this honour with her husband of 43 years, Murray, also a Kenner Alumnus, her two sons, Brad and Rob and their partners Erin and Laura and a lovely grand-daughter Cate. Sharon also shares this honour in memory of her older sister, Gail, who attended Kenner a year ahead of her. Gail went on to graduate from Queen's with a Bachelor of Nursing Science, and was tragically killed three months after starting her career with the Peterborough Health Unit.

Stephen has been involved with the sport of hockey most of his life, but over the last 38 years he has dedicated his services to the Peterborough Liftlock Atom Hockey Tournament.  His involvement in the Tournament started as a result of his work within the Peterborough Community Church Hockey League. Through those years he became involved in executive positions of the League, eventually becoming President in 1978.  During his term as President, one of his duties was to sit on the board of directors of the Tournament.  When his term as President expired he was asked to join the Tournament board of directors, and became Chairman in 1987, a position he still holds.

Stephen has been graciously bestowed various awards including the Frank Lustic Award for volunteer work within the Church League and the Tournament, Sportsperson of the Year, and recently a Civic Service Award from the City of Peterborough.  He also enjoys other sports, such as golf at the Kawartha Golf and Country Club, where he served as a board member for three years.  He has coached soccer, hockey, and baseball and has served as league President in a local five pin bowling association.  Stephen married his high school sweetheart, Joan, who also attended Kenner and together have raised two wonderful children whom they are very proud.  Their daughter Nicole, who is home from three years of teaching in Scotland with her husband Paul, and their son Andrew, a second year poser linesmen apprentice.  

DR. DOUGLAS CHENOWETH

After graduating from Kenner in 1960, Doug entered medicine at University of Toronto in 1963.  He participated in the pilot clinical clerkship program at Wellesley Hospital, graduating as an MD in 1967.  Being unsure about surgery as a specialty, and coming from a long line of doctors in the family, Doug entered the surgical preceptor ship program in Peterborough.  After a year of internal medicine in Vancouver and a residency in diagnostic radiology at Sunnybrook Medical Centre, Doug, in 1972 was approached by Sunnybrook to join the staff.  Some research topics while there included radiopharmaceutical development, investigation of epiphora (tearing) as well as investigation into pelvic trauma.

In 1986 Doug took over the mammography program at Civic Hospital, adding ultrasound and work-up to that service.  In 1992, he and Dr. John Rowsom formed his second breast assessment service in Ontario performing vacuum-assisted needle biopsies and lymph node staging tests using radio pharmaceuticals.  In April 2006 Doug left Peterborough Regional Health Centre and is now the Director of the Medical Centre Breast Clinic.
